Office Design Hacks to Make Your Employees Happier It’s no secret that happy employees are more productive and are retained longer. Up the ante with your office design by implementing these tried-and-true office design techniques.

Make it accessible

Lots of people have flexible work schedules these days, which is great for achieving more work/life balance. But many employees quickly discover that sometimes working from home isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and prefer to be in the office. Let your employees have the freedom to work where they choose by having hot desks or neutral work spaces where they can come and go as they please. Make sure each desk has the necessary electrical outlets, adequate lighting, and comfortable seating so workers can seamlessly work in the office and from home. Many people also would like to work unconventional hours, so consider making your office available 24/7. Working the typical 9-5 hours isn’t as common as it used to be, and office designs should accommodate that trend.

Spice it up

Don’t just implement a cubicle structure or other traditional office design elements without considering your office culture. Do you want to promote collaboration, teamwork, and creativity? Maybe a more open office design would suit your company’s needs better. Or does your employees’ work require intense concentration, focus, and drive? Perhaps they would be better served by having private offices with doors. Alternatively, it’s possible that your employees do a mixture of both, so having both workspace options available would enhance their productivity and wellbeing. The most essential thing is for you to analyze the needs of your company and then choose the office design—not the other way around.

Let there by light!

Levels of daylight are incredibly important for happiness levels. Studies have revealed that work spaces that have more light lead to a sense of increased physical and mental activity among employees. Choose office buildings (or construct your own) with enough daylight access as possible, and you’ll notice the benefits for employees right away.
